5 Reasons Why You Should Spend More Time With Yourself

Have you ever been by yourself and thought, “I am bored! I need some entertainment in my life!”

If you become reliant on other people or circumstances to make you happy, you may never realize the importance of spending time ALONE!

Being by yourself, and learning to create a space for internal peace and calm is incredibly important!

Inevitably, you will have times where you will be alone with your thoughts. Learning to find value and enjoyment in these moments can play an important role in your mental wellbeing.

Here are 5 reasons why you should spend more time with yourself.

1.) SOLITUDE HELPS YOU FIND & DEFINE YOUR OWN VOICE

When you are constantly surrounded by other people and all their opinions, it can be difficult to find your own definitive voice.

What do YOU believe? What do YOU support?

It is important to ask the opinions of the people you love and respect.

However, it is important for you to be able to come to your OWN conclusions about life issues.

2.) BEING ALONE DOESN’T MEAN YOU ARE LONELY

In a recent interview, actor Keanu Reeves made the following statement:

“Someone told me the other day that he felt bad for single people because they are lonely all the time. I told him that’s not true. I’m single and I don’t feel lonely. I take myself out to eat and buy myself clothes. I have great times by myself. Once you know how to take care of yourself, company becomes an option and not a necessity.”

As a child, it was very normal to find enjoyable ways to pass the time by ourselves.

Suddenly, as adults, it becomes an unhealthy necessity to always be surrounded by people, so we don’t feel lonely.

BREAK THE STEREOTYPE!

Although everyone experiences loneliness at certain points, it doesn’t have to be a normal experience if you start learning the necessity of “alone time”.

Start finding ways to experience life by yourself. Pop in some headphones, listen to some good music, and start enjoying your own company!

3.) IT GIVES YOU TIME TO REFLECT ON WHAT IS IMPORTANT IN LIFE

In all the hustle and bustle of life, it is too easy to get caught up in the fast-paced, goal-oriented lifestyle that is so NORMAL in today’s society.

But what really matters in life? Are all your goals going to have the outcome that you desire?

Some people hate a quiet room because they don’t enjoy having time to reflect on what they’ve done in life and where they are going!

Reflection is an invaluable experience that you NEED to welcome into your life.

Ask yourself deep, meaningful questions!

“Am I proud of what I am doing with my life?”

“Am I working hard enough? Is there something I could improve?”

“Should I be prioritizing different things in my life?”

Having quiet moments of reflection will help you discern whether you are heading in the right direction or not.

4.) SOLITUDE HELPS IMPROVE CONCENTRATION

There are a million things pulling for our attention these days.

Marketers and advertisers are skilled in creating addictive experiences that consume our time and energy.

If your goal is to improve your concentration and become more productive, you need to “get away from it all” and go somewhere ALONE.

You will find that you get a lot more done in a much shorter amount of time.

Being surrounded by the distraction of other people can have a very negative effect on your level of productivity.

5.) BEING ALONE IS HEALTHY FOR YOUR RELATIONSHIPS

…family, friends, spouse, co-workers, etc.

Being alone can help to revitalize your energy and make you a better person to be around.

There is a reason why marriage counselors encourage their clients to spend time apart from each other. It is healthy, emotionally and mentally!

It gives you time to quiet your spirit, ponder your life choices, and re-evaluate your priorities.
